I think my best artwork was my Artists learn new skills. I think my designs turned out really well and I liked the purple colors. This process was also my favorite and was for sure doable. It turned out as I had planned. I would like to redo my polar bear if I could. I had learned sculpting is not something I am good at so I would have liked it to turn out more realistic and adding more details to show what I was trying to make. Something I have learned is mistakes or accidents can be happy. I ended up breaking my coil pot and had to redo it. i was very frustrated but In the end I was happier with the new coil pot I had made and it taught me to use time management to not fall so far behind. I wish we could have used the wheel to make things. I have always wanted to try using one of those and thought it may have been easier to smooth things miore on a wheel. Overall I really liked this class and it was fun to learn some new skills and techniques.

I used two different glazes on all of my bowls. One has sun kissed and blue gray. Another one has The blues and Grape. Then the last one is Canton Jade with shiny black. I created these pieces by pressing clay into a bowl covered with plastic and using the ribbed tool to smooth out the inside. I let the clay dry some before taking it out of the mold bowl then smoothing then bottom and outside to make sure it stayed together. These are suppose to be functional bowls used to eat out of, Hold coins, or hold jewelry. They go together because they are all bowls using a tape method to glaze patterns. I put tape where I wanted to keep plain at firszt to put my first color down. After many coats of glaze on the initial bowl I took the tape off to fill in the plain space with another kind of glaze. My goal was to make functional bowls. Two of them turned out well and I can achieve this goal. One of my bowls did blow up but My boyfriend said he had an idea on how to still make it useful. So overall I am happy with how the glazes turned out and how the colors go well together. i also really enjoyed the molding technique because it helps give you a good a goof base to start on to make it more successful instead of starting on your own. I love these bowls and will be using them a lot.
For this sculpture I didn't use glaze. I used White for the bear black for the nose and white and blue mixed paint for the iceburg. My sculpture is suppose to be a polar bear on an iceberg. My sculpture is made out of the white clay. some tools I used were a toothpick and a knife to create eyes smooth the body parts together and cut ears and even legs. What inspired my artwork was the problem with loss of habitat and the distinction or close to distinction animals. I have always liked polar bears and they are now an endangered species. I tried to show the sculpture as small on a small platform because global warming and the melting ice caps and glaciers that is the cause of the endangerment of polar bears. My goal was to make the sculpture as realistic as possible but I have learned sculpting and animals is not what i am the strongest at. So overall my thoughts are tried my best and probably was not my best artwork and I could learn to add more details and work on more realistic artworks.
The supplies I used were tracing paper that I drew my designs on. Then balsa foam to cut my design into using an x-acto knife. I then used a carving tool to make the design deeper so the clay could fit in the design. I also used a rolling pin to evenly press the clay into the foam block. This process is pretty easy you start by rolling out about a half inch slab of clay. you then put your carved out balsa foam design facing up. Then laying the clay on top use a rolling pin to press the clay in and also use the pin to roll it down the sides creating the walls of the piece. You then slowly pull the foam out of the clay. Smooth out the sides and bottom to make sure its all connected. Do not touch design it will ruin it and you will have to start over. I learned That the clay needs to be pretty thick so you don't press all the way through the clay and the lines in the design need to be pretty deep and wide for the clay to fit. The glazes I used were lilac, clear, and wisteria purple. For one of the pieces I mixed the lilac and wisteria to make the color of the design and border.
I used opaque white glaze for the inside of the pot and the base layer on the outside. I then alternated with another coat of opaque white and then Bright Orange for the opposite layers. Fruity Freckles is what I used for a color burst over the white and Bright Orange. The first studio Habit of mind I used was stretch and explore. I noticed that making coils was a struggle for me. learning a new teqnique on how to make the coils and get them long enough took some trial and error to get it right. The second studio habit I used was to engage and persist. My original pot had broken after drying. I had to redo the pot and keep going even after feeling like giving up. I ended up liking the second pot better when i learned from my mistakes and took my time more. It is about 5 inches wide and 6 inches tall.
The first studio habit I used was stretch and explore. I tried and failed many times with the cut of the lid and letting my handle dry too fast. I tried to rewetten the clay and redesign my handle but my teqniques to try and fix it were not working. Envision was the second studio habit. I carved out the design better to make sure the design stuck out better after being fired. I also had to shape the lid to fit and not be sharp after firing. The outside of the box I used jadeite glaze. Then the inside I used sun kissed I also had used sassy yellow but envisioned the glaze was too thin so I switched.
The first studio habit I used was developing craft. I have never worked with clay so learning the wetness and dryness of the clay was something i had to test out. I also used developing craft by testing out different types of glazes and what went well together. I also worked on engaging and persisting by learning what worked and having to remake the pots or transform them to make something even it was completely off from my first plans for the pots. I had trouble with smoothing everything out and keeping the thickness the same. On my white and pink pot I used pink a dot, poppy fields, and opaque white for under the color burst. The butterfly flower pot was made from grape on the inside then lilac and berry berry pie color burst for the outside. Then The apple shaped pot has glazes called true red, new leaf and chocolate. Overall the pots did not come out as I had hopes but I know what to work on and to fix for next time.
